I just bought the Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 with the green synthetic stock, and mounted a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 BDC reticle scope on top of it. I sight ed the scope in using Remington core-lokt 160 grain ammunition. I must say I am very pleased with the way this rifle shot and grouped. The recoil was light compared to other 30-06''s I have shot. The trigger is adjustable, but straight out of the box was perfect for me. There is no trigger creep, and is light enough so a slow squeeze will produce an accurate shot, but not so light that there is a worry for an accidental discharge. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend this rifle to anyone.

I always sight in a rifle with the most "value priced" brand-name ammunition I can find.
I don't reload and the reason is because of the quality inherent in most of today's factory ammunition.
I'm also not a long range benchrest shooter.
I mounted the Vanguard with a Bushnell 3200 5-15X40 objective scope and tightened on a Harris Bipod.
With all screws tight and secure I was off to the range.
After getting set up and sighting in using Federal 100G Soft Point .243 PowerShok, I was amazed at finding my groups were within 1/2 to 3/4" @ 100M.
At 200M of course the groups spread out between 1 to 2".
As of yet, I have not tried the 300M range.
Most hunting in my area is within the 100M range.
The gun was a used model but with maybe only 30 to 40 rounds through it.
As some would say...barely broken in.
I let the gun completely cool down and started shooting again and ended up with the same positive results.
Next time out I tried the same ammunition in 80G.
My Vanguard likes 100G just a little bit better.
Everything on the gun is also designed nicely for the hand.
Bolt, safety etc. No frills.
Now a few years back I quit cleaning the barrel bores of all my rifles with solvent & bristle brush which I had done for many, many years previous.
I now only use a plastic coated steel cable "pull through" with cloth patches.
Chamber to muzzle 2X maximum per each cleaning.
Some of you may cringe at this cleaning method but I get more consistently close groups out of a cold barrel by not scrubbing the hell out of the bore.
This is coming from a meticulous gun owner who hates rust and crud of any kind.
Anyone care to comment.
Please note that if I lived near a salt-spray coast this cleaning method would not apply. A rusty bore is a no-no.
